Congratulations on your decision to obtain Fellowship accreditation with the World Congress of Minimally Invasive Dentistry!

There are three elements to obtain Fellowship status: the written examination, the clinical case write up, and the oral case presentation (PowerPoint).

  • The Fellowship examination consists of 100 multiple choice questions, with two extra credit questions.

  • The clinical papers that you may use as a study guide for the written portion of the exam are posted in the Fellowship Study Guide of this website. The documents appear on line for you to down load. The first articles of the study guide will give you a brief historical perspective of the beginnings of Minimal Intervention Dentistry, starting with Robert B. Black in 1942. The articles are selected to provide a basic understanding of the concepts underlying Minimal Intervention Dentistry. Also, you will find the scoring parameters for the clinical case write-up and documentation at the end of the write up example. The case can be from any aspect of minimally invasive dentistry from non-invasive procedures like caries management and periodontal management through to minimal intervention restorative procedures with the emphasis being on conservation of biological tissues.

  • The clinical case write-up must include the essential elements from the marking sheet in the write-up example, and also include the images. In the written document, the images may be slides, photographs or digital images embedded in the document. The written documentation must not be just a printout of a PowerPoint presentation. The written document is the information on which you will be examined (use the write up example as a guide). The oral presentation will consist of you presenting a PowerPoint of essentially what is in the write-up, along with the images. The scoring of these sections is noted in the marking schedules. There is a blank write-up form available for down load, as well as a sample write-up for you to use as a guide. Each of the three sections (written exam, case write-up and PowerPoint presentation) is worth 100 points, the pass mark for each section is 75%.

A PowerPoint template to use for your clinical presentation is provided for your convenience. If you have any questions or problems downloading or linking to the study guide articles, or require help with creating your case presentation PowerPoint, please contact the WCMID at 800-973-8003 (North America):

Please also bring a printed copy of your clinical case write up and your PowerPoint with you to the meeting either on a disk or on your computer. Our goal is to provide you with a straightforward learning experience.

You must notify the WCMID Office of your intention to take the exam.
